Minister Steven Blaney Attends Private Screening of "Le dernier des fantassins" Documentary
(firmenpresse) - QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/23/12 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, attended an exclusive premiere screening of the documentary "Le dernier des fantassins" this afternoon. Directed by Alain Stanke, the film tells the story of Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Charles Forbes, a French-Canadian Veteran of the Second World War and the Korean War. In attendance at the showing were family members of Lieutenant-Colonel Forbes and members of Branch 265 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
"As Minister of Veterans Affairs, I am honoured to attend the first screening of this documentary. It is a marvellous opportunity to share my pride in Francophone Veterans of this great region," said Minister Blaney. "We have to preserve the legacy of Canadian Veterans so that upcoming generations will recognize the importance of their contributions. Our Government is proud to recognize Alain Stanke for his invaluable work in this regard. Without his dedication and hard work, this screening would not have been possible."
"At a time when we face an uncertain future, it is good that some of us remember the past, in order to remind us that the worst thing of all would be to forget those who risked their lives so that we can live ours," said Alain Stanke.
"Le dernier des fantassins" was produced by Avanti Cine Video in collaboration with Radio-Canada.
"It is the exclusive, unique, passionate and gripping story of a man who almost died a thousand times but who, by some miracle, came back from the land of the dead to tell us his moving story with astonishing vitality, so shortly before his death at the age of 89," said content producer Pierrette Villemaire.
The documentary will be broadcast on Radio-Canada at a date yet to be determined, but in the meantime the producers decided to organize a private screening of it with the Minister as the guest of honour. Alain Stanke and Minister Blaney have previously collaborated on the documentary "Des jeunes de coeur," in August 2011, and Mr. Stanke also received the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation that same year for his efforts to have Francophone Veterans recognized.
