Minister Raitt Meets With Stakeholders to Discuss Occupational Health and Safety Issues in Red Lake
(firmenpresse) - RED LAKE, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/21/12 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, and Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament for Kenora, hosted a round table on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) with a focus on the mining industry. This round table provided a forum for the Minister to exchange views with and seek input from participants on a number of issues related to OHS.
"Our Government is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our workforce," said Minister Raitt. "By improving the well-being of workers, we can ensure that Canadian workplaces continue to be productive, innovative and contributing more efficiently to the economy."
The purpose of this round table, in which Minister Raitt engaged with representatives of various worker and employer organizations, was to create an open dialogue on the leadership necessary in creating safer and healthier workplaces across Canada.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code. These laws cover industrial relations, health and safety, as well as employment standards, and apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
