Percona Live Contest to Award Full Conference Passes to Three Lucky Winners

Vitess is an open source project that packages many of the ad-hoc processes and conventions that grew out of managing and scaling MySQL at YouTube. Databases like MySQL have what it takes to provide an efficient data storage layer. What is missing is the ability to easily scale out and then coordinate many instances of a single logical schema. YouTube is planning to achieve this by providing a subset SQL front end with limited guarantees and a loosely coupled distributed system to automate complex management scenarios. This session will provide more detail on the and the . The speakers will be Mike Solomon and Sugu Sougoumarane, both from Google. Sougoumarane works on the architecture team and is a major contributor to the Vitess open source project. Solomon focuses on distributed systems, collaborated on the Vitess project, and is actively working to improve the efficiency of YouTube's MySQL infrastructure.

MySQL has a long history at Google and has been providing the company with a combination of speed, reliability and scalability, making it the preferred relational storage solution for many projects. This presentation will reveal what makes MySQL attractive to Google, provide an overview of the life of a MySQL installation at Google, share the rationale for and the experiences in moving from MySQL 5.0 to 5.1, and offer up some of the current challenges and future plans at Google. The speaker will be Razvan Musaloiu-E, a member of the Site Reliability Team that maintains Google's largest MySQL installations.
