Ningbo Baishi Achieves World's First EU Stage 5 CFL Qualification for Energy-Efficient Lighting
Compact Fluorescents Use NXP UBA2211 Driver ICs to Pass Stringent Requirements Taking Effect in 2013
(firmenpresse) - EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS and SHANGHAI, CHINA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/19/12 -- NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) today announced that China-based is the world's first CFL manufacturer to pass Stage 5 of the EU Ecodesign requirements for non-directional household lamps, which go into effect on September 1, 2013. Ningbo Baishi, which supplies fluorescent bulbs as well as LED lamps to major retailers worldwide, is using NXP's high-efficiency CFL driver ICs in all of its compact fluorescents. The T4 2U non-dimmable CFL from Ningbo Baishi, which uses the based on , has been certified as meeting and exceeding the second level of functionality of the EU Ecodesign requirements (Stage 5), which include longer lifetime, and very high switching cycles and lumen maintenance before failure.
"Compact fluorescent lamps offer tremendous energy savings, but as many consumers know, not all CFLs are the same. Higher-quality fluorescent lamps can last twice as long -- or even longer -- compared to lower-end fluorescent bulbs, delivering significant cost savings over time. Higher-quality CFLs are also much more environmentally friendly since they reduce waste," said Mr. Zhang Liqiang, president, Ningbo Baishi Electric Co., Ltd. "The European Union is currently driving the most demanding requirements for compact fluorescents in terms of quality, performance and lifespan. We are very pleased to be able to offer Stage 5-certified energy-efficient lamps to our customers worldwide."
In addition to supplying retailers throughout Asia, Ningbo Baishi currently supplies LED lamps as well as fluorescent bulbs to major retail chains in Europe and North America, including Carrefour in France, Aldi and Lidl in Germany, and many others.
"We congratulate Ningbo Baishi on achieving Stage 5 certification, and are very pleased that NXP GreenChip CFL drivers are part of that success," said Stephane Curral, vice president and general manager, power and lighting solutions product line, NXP Semiconductors. "At NXP, we've specifically designed CFL driver ICs with the most demanding specifications in mind, as we firmly believe that consumers who use energy-saving lamps deserve the best lighting experience possible. Working together with key customers such as Ningbo Baishi, we're showing that fluorescent lamps using GreenChip technology can live up to these specifications and greatly improve product quality and lifetime."
The NXP UBA2211 family offers a fully integrated CFL driver along with a current controlled preheat function, enabling more compact fluorescent lamp designs, highly efficient power conversion, and extended CFL lifetimes in the range of 12,000 to 15,000 hours. Designed to provide easy integration of lamp loads across a range of burner power and mains voltages, the UBA2211 family features an exceptionally small form factor that significantly reduces the bill of materials (BoM) for manufacturers, enabling the volume production of high-quality CFLs.
