Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada, visited the "Anne Frank - A Modern Story" exhibit at the Marcelle-Mallet High School in Levis. During his visit, the Minister spoke with students about the dangers of discrimination and the importance of tolerance.
"I am delighted to see projects like the "Anne Frank, A Modern Story" exhibit being welcomed at Marcelle-Malet High School and in schools across Quebec, allowing young people to learn more about the realities of armed conflicts and Canada's military heritage," said Minister Blaney. "This exhibit allows young people and the general public to dive into Anne's universe and better understand the reasons why Canadian soldiers fought in the Second World War."
The exhibit tells the story of the Holocaust and the Second World War to Quebec youth through the eyes of Anne Frank. It aims to foster the exchange of ideas and discussion on the exhibit's themes by linking this story and the story of Canada. "The exhibit encourages reflection and discussion among visitors. This is an important window on history, and we encourage citizens to come discover it," added Minister Blaney.
The "Anne Frank, A Modern Story" exhibit will be presented in Quebec schools during 2012 and 2013. It will be at the Marcelle-Mallet High School in Levis until April 13, 2012 and is open to the public every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., after which it will move on to Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec City and Montreal.
