Accredited Centers Provide Higher Level of Expertise to Patients With Heart-Attack Symptoms
(firmenpresse) - CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 03/02/12 -- Saint Joseph Hospital recently received re-accreditation as a by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC), an international not-for-profit organization. The accreditation is effective for three years.

SCPC-accredited hospitals have achieved a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive with heart-attack symptoms. In addition, these facilities generally provide more appropriate and rapid treatment of patients with chest pain and other heart attack symptoms.

The SCPC conducted a rigorous evaluation of Saint Joseph Hospital for its ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. The accreditation means Saint Joseph Hospital has the capabilities to:
Reduce the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment
Treat patients more quickly during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved
Monitor patients when it is not certain that they are having a heart attack to ensure that they are not sent home too quickly or needlessly admitted to the hospital
Accredited facilities also serve as a point of entry into the healthcare system to evaluate and treat other medical problems -- helping to promote a healthier lifestyle and reduce the risk factors for heart attack.
