William Hallan Leads Michigan Retailers Association Government Affairs
(firmenpresse) - LANSING, MI -- (Marketwire) -- 02/27/12 -- William J. Hallan has been named Michigan Retailers Association vice president government affairs and general counsel, placing him in charge of the Association's legislative advocacy.
Coming off landmark legislative victories reforming Michigan's item pricing law and eliminating the Michigan Business Tax -- and in the middle of a campaign to bring about Main Street Fairness regarding collection of sales tax on Internet purchases -- the promotion is part of a reorganization to provide additional resources to government affairs efforts, said MRA President and CEO James P. Hallan.
Wm. Hallan joined MRA last August as vice president and general counsel. He takes over government affairs responsibilities from Eric Rule, who has become a partner in the Lansing-based multi-client lobbying firm Capitol Strategies Group. Rule and his firm also will lobby for MRA.
"These changes are designed to make our government affairs activities even more effective at this critical time in our state's history," said President Hallan.
"Michigan is remaking itself after a decade of decline, and we want Michigan Retailers to have the strongest hand possible in helping shape decisions that affect the business community in general and the retail industry in particular for years to come."
Prior to joining Michigan Retailers, Wm. Hallan was a litigator in the Dykema law firm's Bloomfield Hills office. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Toledo School of Law and a graduate of Denison University.
Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers and other businesses. MRA's nearly 5,000 members represent more than 15,000 stores and websites across Michigan.
