DentalPlans.com Awards Young Woman in Tooth Pain With $2,012 in Free Dental Care

Last month, Anderson, along with more than 800 people from across the country, entered DentalPlans.com's "Grant a Dental Wish" Facebook contest by sharing their dental care stories for the chance to win $2,012 towards dental work this year.
Anderson's story about his sister, 19-year-old Kayla, was voted by Facebook fans as the most deserving of the money towards dental bills. Two runners-up also won a free to save 10% to 60% on most dental care procedures at a selection of more than 100,000 dentists nationwide.
Kayla, who suffered from multiple infections and broken teeth in 2011, has a medical condition that causes her body to produce abnormally low levels of calcium -- creating an increase in cavities and tooth decay.
In the contest entry, Anderson also shared the following about his sister's dental pain, "We have been to the emergency room numerous times. But they cannot do anything for her and the free insurance she has does not cover dental work."
Kayla's road to dental care recovery begins in February when she will meet with Dr. James Hancock to begin treatment. She will also use an , included with her prize, to save money on her dental work.
As evident by the stories and amount of entries taken in by DentalPlans.com's Facebook contest, as well as several reports released in recent years, dental care is becoming an economical luxury for many Americans.
A 2012 Consumer Reports survey of more than 50,000 respondents revealed that the biggest reason people delay dental care is cost. In addition, one in four Americans under 65 has no dental insurance, according to the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics.
