Special Appearance by "The Biggest Loser" Past Contestants Jerry and Estella Hayes
(firmenpresse) - CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 02/23/12 -- Dancing is good for the heart! During American Heart Month in February, Saint Joseph Hospital is sponsoring -- an event that promotes good cardiovascular health -- from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 29 at Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave., Chicago.
This first-time program will combine a night of dancing with refreshments, health screenings and information on heart disease and other health topics. There will be a special appearance by "The Biggest Loser" past contestants -- Jerry and Estella Hayes. Bruce Lewis, M.D., chief of cardiology, Saint Joseph Hospital, will discuss how to "Live Your Life to the Fullest." The event is open to women and men.
Saint Joseph Hospital is sponsoring this Spirit of Women event to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors, inspire immediate action for better health and promote the concept that good health is just a dance away.
Dancing can burn as many calories as swimming, walking or riding a bike (200 to 400 calories per hour). Benefits of ongoing dance include weight maintenance or weight loss, lowering of blood pressure and cholesterol, increased energy and coordination, muscle strength and an overall sense of well-being.
Coronary heart disease, which causes heart attack, is the single leading cause of death for American women. Nearly twice as many women in the U.S. die of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases than from all forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
Health screenings available include: diabetes, blood pressure, body mass index, cardiovascular risk assessment and cholesterol.
Tickets are $25 per person, which include two cocktails, appetizers, dancing, health screenings and information, and more. There will be a grand prize raffle for $500.
