Exciting New OTC Blood Sampling Service Launched

There are fourteen tests available currently, including cholesterol, anaemia, vitamin deficiency and hepatitis.

Being able to do the tests at home is a convenient and easy, but it is also important for people who want confidentiality, for example if they want a test for syphilis or Hepatitis B and C and, with the diabetes test, there is no need to fast to get an accurate result as the test looks for HbA1c (as recommended by the World Health Organisation) to test for Type 2 diabetes.

is sold in single packs that enable customers to take a blood sample at home and then post it in a pre-paid package to the SHLS laboratories where fully qualified biomedical scientists test it and prepare a personalised laboratory report (as detailed as they do for GPs). The report is posted back to the customer within seven working days of the lab receiving the sample. will inform the customer if it is felt that they should consult a health care professional and the report gives advice on where to obtain further information. also has a dedicated helpline available for after sales support.
The instant diagnostics market (including pregnancy kits) is currently worth an estimated GBP 10 million in the UK and there are no other products on the market currently that offer this level of professional analysis.
is being launched with a significant marketing spend that includes advertising, PR, POS, in-store videos, webinars and further activities that will be announced during 2012. is a pharmacy-led purchase and will only be available via pharmacies or on-line pharmacies.
Potential markets are: Consumers with certain symptoms who want to rule out (or confirm) health concerns (such as glandular fever, hypothyroidism, H.Pylori or coeliac disease) and the well being and lifestyle market - people who want to test for deficiencies/conditions (such as iron, Folic Acid and Vitamin D).
