Eve Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, and Rob Clarke, Member of Parliament for Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, visited Saskatoon today and met with representatives from the Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans Association and the First Nations Veterans Association of Canada.

Adams appreciated the open and wide-ranging discussions with First Nations Veterans, noting they were "productive and will help our Government as it continues to deliver programs, benefits and services to meet the needs of all our Veterans."

"It was an honour and a privilege to meet these remarkable Canadians and to hear about their stories first-hand," said MP Eve Adams. "Our Government is listening, learning more about these organizations, and will continue to act on the priorities of our Veterans."

Parliamentary Secretary Adams and Mr. Clarke discussed the services and benefits available to First Nations Veterans and their families through Veterans Affairs Canada. In particular, they noted that the Harper Government recently implemented significant enhancements to the New Veterans Charter to better care for and support seriously ill and injured Veterans. Included in these new and improved benefits is a disability award where Veterans can choose their method of payment. Also included are earnings loss benefits and the Permanent Impairment Allowance. Additionally, our Government is working to provide Veterans with the services they need to successfully transition from military to civilian life, and has included job placement services under the New Charter.

"Under the leadership of Minister Blaney, we are cutting red tape and providing faster and better service to Veterans, Canadian Forces members and their families," said Adams. "We are doing all of this because our Government is committed to ensuring we serve our nation's truest heroes in the same way that they have always served Canada."
