Harper Government to Introduce New Fuel Consumption Labels, Announces 2012 Winners for Fuel Efficiency
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/17/12 -- The Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, today announced that the Government of Canada will introduce new fuel consumption labels in 2014 to help consumers make informed decisions when purchasing new vehicles sold in Canada. The Minister made his announcement at the Canadian International AutoShow, where he also unveiled the 2012 winners of the ecoENERGY for Vehicles Awards.
The new Canadian label will align with the labels used in the United States and provide more comprehensive information to help consumers choose more fuel-efficient vehicles.
"When Canadians make large purchases they want the best information available," said Minister Oliver. "Our Government has listened and our new labels will more accurately reflect the actual fuel efficiency of vehicles."
Minister Oliver also presented the 2012 ecoENERGY for Vehicles Awards to nine different companies for ten vehicle classes.
"I would like to congratulate these manufacturers on their outstanding work in producing the most fuel-efficient vehicles available in Canada today," said Minister Oliver. "We will continue to work with the industry to help Canadians choose the most fuel-efficient vehicle for their everyday needs."
The awards are managed through Natural Resources Canada's ecoENERGY Efficiency for Vehicles program, which provides decision-making tools for buying and operating consumer and fleet vehicles to reduce fuel consumption. This program is part of the ecoENERGY Efficiency Initiatives, which are investing $195 million over five years to maintain the Government of Canada's momentum to improve energy use in Canada - at home, at work and on the road.
