Minister Raitt Congratulates Air Canada and the CAW-Canada on Ratifying a Collective Agreement
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/16/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated Air Canada and the National Automobile, Aerospace, Transportation and General Workers Union of Canada (CAW-Canada) Local 2002, for successfully reaching a new collective agreement.
"I am very pleased that Air Canada and the CAW-Canada have reached a negotiated agreement without an interruption to services," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations benefit our country's economic prosperity and the economic security of Canadians."
CAW Local 2002 represents nearly 75 employees responsible for the scheduling of in-flight service crew functions, including manning-by-load, reserve awarding, transfers, arranging and monitoring crew movements. The parties reached their new agreement with the assistance of a conciliation officer from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
"We are encouraging Air Canada and other unions to follow this example and settle their labour dispute as soon as possible," said Minister Raitt. "A negotiated settlement is unquestionably in the best interest of employees, the travelling public and the Canadian economy."
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
