Italian Cuisine Voted Americans' Favorite Foreign Food
Intrepid Travel Reveals Results of Food Survey, Offers 15% Off Food Tours
(firmenpresse) - SANTA ROSA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/08/12 -- A new survey commissioned by has found that Italian is the favorite foreign cuisine for most Americans, with one in five (21%) saying it's their top choice.
The poll was conducted for the small group specialist by YouGov and queried Americans about their food preferences and eating habits while traveling. The survey found Italian food is the most popular cuisine among 18-34-year-olds (21%), and 35-54-year-olds (21%), while the 55+ age group is more patriotic in their choice of meal and most likely to favor American cuisine (28%).
Younger travelers prove to be the more adventurous. Travelers in the 25-34-year-old group are more likely to eat from food stalls and street vendors (18%), compared to the national average (11%).
Among those surveyed who have vacationed abroad, almost half (45%) said that local cuisine is very or fairly important when choosing their destination. Almost 9 in 10 (89%) have eaten their favorite cuisine in a restaurant, almost 8 in 10 (78%) have cooked it at home, but just under a third (32%) have eaten it in a restaurant in the country of its origin.

All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc. Total sample size was 1,040 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken from January 9 - 11, 2012. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all US adults (aged 18+). Full results available upon request.
