Climate Change and Emissions Management (CCEMC) Corporation Issues GHG Reduction Summit Report with Ideas to Strengthen Alberta's GHG Management System

(firmenpresse) - EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/06/12 -- The Climate Change and Emissions Management (CCEMC) Corporation has issued a report on the that the organization hosted in 2011. The Summit included a series of keynote speakers and facilitated workshops where participants shared ideas about strengthening Alberta's GHG management system. The GHG Reduction Summit Report is a summary of the findings arising from the discussions that occurred over two days.

"The CCEMC GHG Reduction Summit stimulated a constructive discussion about how organizations can help Alberta transition to a lower carbon economy," said CCEMC Chair Eric Newell. "As a result of the Summit discussion the CCEMC has already taken action. We've invited proposals from small and medium sized businesses and we're exploring opportunities for an open innovation competition. The CCEMC will continue to factor what we learned into our future plans."

The GHG Reduction Summit Report captures the broad range of ideas that participants put forward to strengthen the GHG management system, including ideas that fall outside of CCEMC's mandate.

In May, more than 200 people attended the GHG Reduction Summit, listened to thought-provoking presentations from leaders such as , and participated in facilitated discussions around challenges tied to the clean tech innovation system, finance and human capital and public policy. Participants represented industry, government, research organizations and entrepreneurs.

The CCEMC GHG Reduction Summit Report is available online in the publications section of the CCEMC website at .

Since 2007, Alberta companies that annually produce more than 100,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions are legally required to reduce their greenhouse gas intensity by 12 per cent. One compliance option is to pay into the Climate Change and Emissions Management Fund at $15/tonne.

The CCEMC is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to establish or participate in funding for initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support adaptation. The CCEMC invests in discovery, development, and operational deployment of clean technologies.
