Not when at all but two of their 36 parks it is possible to buy your own caravan there. Little wonder, then, that around 24,000 people already own at a Haven park.
"Initially we never really thought about actually owning our own holiday home," explains Toni Matthews from Hillingdon, near Heathrow, who bought a starter home at Church Farm, near Chichester in West Sussex two years ago. "But it just makes so much sense for us. We can leave from work on the Friday evening, pick the kids up and within 90 minutes we're on holiday. There's no travel weariness and the lifestyle on offer is so much better than what our children would have in London," Toni adds.
For John and Maureen Barlow, the purchase of a holiday home at the Perran Sands Haven Holiday Park in Cornwall was the fulfilment of a long-held dream for the couple. Having been making the long journey from Manchester to South West England for almost 30 years - a journey which initially took 15 hours - the chance to enjoy long summers at their very own holiday home was just too good to pass up.
That they spend much of this time looking after their seven grandchildren only makes the whole experience even more perfect. "We usually have them (the grandkids) here three or four at a time," says Maureen. "It's a real bonus being able to spend time with them. They've made so many friends and they all look out for each other. It's a far cry from worrying about not letting them out on the street at home, worrying about traffic or them spending hours in front of a screen."
As with all Haven owners, the Matthews and Barlows not only have unlimited access to the facilities available on park but they also automatically become part of 'Owners Exclusive' which aims to enhance the ownership experience still further with a programme of special events for Owners. These range from exclusive use of the facilities at certain times to regular social events with regular 'Big Weekends' offering all sorts of free activities from wine tasting to clay pigeon shooting and themed party nights.
The regular Spring, Summer and End of Season Balls are exclusive to owners and a real highlight of the annual calendar.
As part of their average annual pitch fee owners are given ten Privilege Plus cards, which in addition to providing access to the aforementioned events, can also be charged with up to GBP 500 credit. Not only does this mean that neither adults nor children (who can have their own cards) need carry cash around with them, but they are also given 15 per cent extra each time they use the card to buy something on park.
