Minister Toews Statement on a Removal and Arrest from "Most Wanted" List
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/01/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement after the Canada Border Services Agency today announced the removal of Delson Jules, and the arrest of Ian Getfield by the Toronto Police Service. Both men were on the "Wanted by the CBSA" list.
"On January 17th, Mr. Jules reported to the CBSA at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, and was subsequently removed from Canada for inadmissibility under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. I am encouraged by the fact that this individual, and others who have committed crimes and are in this country illegally, are voluntarily turning themselves in to the authorities.
In addition, on January 31, the Toronto Police Service arrested Ian Getfield, the subject of a nation-wide warrant for removal for a number of criminal offenses.
There is no place for those who through deceit and crime, take advantage of Canada's generous welcome and threaten the safety of our communities and citizens.
Our Government is committed to removing individuals who are inadmissible, and who have been convicted for acts of serious criminality in Canada."
