Minister Raitt Congratulates BC Maritime Employers Association and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union on Ratifying an Eight-Year Collective Agreement
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/31/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated the BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 514 on ratifying a new collective agreement.
"I am very pleased that the BCMEA and the ILWU have successfully reached an eight-year negotiated agreement that will ensure long-term labour stability at British Columbia's shipping ports," said Minister Raitt. ILWU Local 514 represents nearly 500 foremen working at the ports. The parties reached their new eight-year agreement with the assistance of the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
