The Harper Government Will Continue to Focus on Jobs and Economic Growth in Parliament
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/30/12 -- The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Government House Leader, and the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today provided an overview of the Government of Canada's legislative priorities for the upcoming session of the House of Commons.
"Prime Minister Harper has been clear that our number-one priority is prosperity - that is jobs and economic growth," said Minister Van Loan. "We need to stay focused on the economy and make the necessary transformations to sustain economic growth, job creating and prosperity, now and for the next generation."
"Our Government is committed to keeping taxes low and to advance our trade linkages that will benefit all Canadians," added Minister Blaney. "We also want to make key investments in science and technology to sustain a modern competitive economy."
Prior to the introduction of the Economic Action Plan 2012, the Government will work to make progress on important economic measures including:
"Our Government will also move to follow through on our commitments to pass the Safe Streets and Communities Act within the first 100 sitting days, and finally end the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry," said Minister Van Loan.
"We are looking forward to working with all Members of Parliament - of all parties - to address Canadians' top priorities to the benefit of all Canadians," concluded Minister Blaney.
