Minister Raitt Builds on International Labour Partnerships With Panamanian Counterparts
(firmenpresse) - PANAMA CITY, PANAMA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/26/12 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, discussed labour-related issues and engaged in discussions with Panamanian dignitaries and business and labour leaders. Minister Raitt also presented the opening remarks at an International Organization for Migration Awareness-raising Seminar.
"The Government of Canada is proud to work with our partner countries to achieve greater levels of international cooperation on labour issues," said Minister Raitt. "We look forward to working closely with Panama on the implementation of the Canada-Panama Agreement on Labour Cooperation once it comes into force."
The Government of Canada has provided over $365,000 in labour-related technical assistance funding in Panama. This includes a multi-country project with the International Organization for Migration that aims to modernize and improve labour migration management processes.
The Labour Program addresses international labour issues by representing Canada in international forums; negotiating and implementing international labour agreements; implementing programs to improve labour governance in developing countries; promoting internationally recognized core labour standards; and managing partnerships and consultations with stakeholders. This leadership is integral to the Government of Canada's overall foreign policy direction to support human rights and democratic governance.
