New Industry Collaboration Validates Need for Automated Demand Response Systems
Z-Wave and OpenADR Alliances Form Strategic Relationship to Speed Adoption of OpenADR Standard
(firmenpresse) - SAN ANTONIO, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 01/25/12 -- -- The Z-Wave Alliance, the world's largest ecosystem of interoperable wireless control solutions, and OpenADR Alliance, a nonprofit corporation created to foster the development, adoption and compliance of a Smart Grid standard known as Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR), today announced from DistribuTECH (Booth #1627) the signing of a liaison agreement to collaborate on compliance and interoperability programs to ensure successful market deployment of the OpenADR 2.0 standard.
"Successful adoption of the OpenADR standard in the consumer market requires a pervasive adoption of high speed Internet and residential energy management," said Barry Haaser, executive director of the OpenADR Alliance. "The Z-Wave Alliance has a large installed base home automation and service provider marketplace, making this a platform for aligning marketing and technical strategies to enable rapid market deployment."
"Members of the Z-Wave Alliance produce the many of the smart grid components, gateways and end-node devices that make use of the OpenADR Standard so it is only natural that we collaborate on further development and deployment of the Standard," said Mark Walters, chairman of the Z-Wave Alliance. "Additionally, our Alliances have many members in common and this agreement makes it easier and more efficient for them to collaborate across Alliance boundaries."
Z-Wave Alliance members have successfully completed field trials with Utilities such as Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) using OpenADR standards to implement effective demand response programs.
Z-Wave is an international standard for low-power RF mesh network communication and is used for building area communications enabling products such as; gateways, thermostats, lighting controls, window and shade controls, home energy displays, smart appliances and load controls to form intelligent networks. Z-Wave enabled products represent the world's largest ecosystem of interoperable smart products.
The Z-Wave Alliance is a consortium of over 160 companies worldwide who use the Z-Wave technology in their products and services. Alliance members collaborate on the advancement of the Z-Wave technology and on solutions in market areas including; smart home, smart grid and smart energy, home security and remote home management, hospitality, commercial building control and aging independently.
