University of Tennessee-Knoxville Running Back Named 2012 Pat Tillman Award Winner
(firmenpresse) - TAMPA, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 01/22/12 -- Tauren Poole, running back for the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, was awarded the Pat Tillman Award at the East-West Shrine Game® banquet Friday evening. The award is presented annually to the player who demonstrates courage, perseverance and talent throughout the week leading up to the East-West Shrine Game and recognizes his overall achievements and conduct.
"Tauren's passion and work ethic are unmatched," said University of Tennessee graduate assistant running backs coach, Chino Fontenette. "His leadership had a strong impact on our team. He is an outstanding man, both on and off the field."
Poole was the lone senior starting on offense and one of just 13 on the roster. He had a career 423 attempts, 1898 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was a two-year captain and a two-time strong man award winner recognizing the hardest worker in off-season workouts. He was named to the 2010 Phil Steele All-SEC Third Team and was on the preseason watch lists for the Walker, Maxwell, Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
The native of Toccoa, Ga., he helped Stephens County high school win three consecutive region titles. He was named the SEC Community Service Player of the Week and has been involved with the Eagle Strut Walk-A-Thon, Special Olympics of Gatlinburg, Habitat for Humanity, Miracle Network, Telethon for East Tennessee Children's Hospital, and Punt, Pass and Kick for the Boys and Girl Club.
He was named a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll, four-time SEC Honor Roll, and two-time CBS sports academic player of the week in 2010. He earned a degree in sport management with a 3.26 overall GPA in just three and a half years.
