Portland Veterinary Hospital Hosted Holiday Pet Food and Supplies Drive
(firmenpresse) - PORTLAND, OR -- (Marketwire) -- 01/22/12 -- Peninsula Dog & Cat Clinic announced that it participated in the PVMA Holiday Pet Food and Supplies Drive. Recipients of the drive included the Portland Animal Welfare Team and the Coffee Creek Puppy Program. The drive gathered pet food, leashes, blankets, dog sweaters, flea prevention products, and new dog and cat toys. Individuals donated items at Peninsula Dog & Cat Clinic up through January 5th, 2012. Dr. Kenneth DeRemer announced that his , Peninsula Dog & Cat Clinic and , participated in the . The Portland Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA) drive gathered food and supplies for several local non-profit organizations that serve animals in need. Total donations gathered by the two hospitals amounted to $750.
"During the holiday season, we encouraged all families to remember pets in need and the organizations who care for them," said Dr. DeRemer. "Our local rescue organizations and shelters do a tremendous amount to care for animals, and we wanted to do our part, too. Simple donations of pet food, new toys or flea medication helped many pets stay healthy."

Portland Animal Welfare Team helps pet owners who are homeless or facing extreme poverty. The PAW Team's services include , , and providing pet food and supplies. In addition to pet food, the PAW Team requested donations such as pet medication in original packaging, flea products for cats and dogs, leashes, collars, gently used pet sweaters, blankets and food bowls.
The Coffee Creek Puppy Program works with female inmates at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility to train service dogs through the non-profit Canine Companions for Independence. The inmates teach dogs a variety of advanced commands, including how to turn on lights, pick up dropped objects and assist with daily living tasks. Coffee Creek Puppy Program received donated dog food in original packaging, new or gently used warm pet clothing (e.g., sweatshirts, rain gear), flea prevention, dental/oral care products and pet medications.
