Statement by Public Safety Minister on Apprehension and Removal of Individuals From "Wanted by the CBSA" List
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/21/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement regarding the apprehension of an individual from the "Wanted by the CBSA" list. Hours after Minister Toews' update on Friday afternoon regarding recent apprehensions and a removal, another individual was arrested. Steven Mark Nairn, following a tip from the public, was arrested by CBSA officers from the Pacific Region Enforcement Centre late Friday evening.
"With the arrest of another individual from the Wanted list, our government continues to send a strong message that Canada is not a haven for those who try to enter or live here illegally, who have broken the law and threaten the safety of our citizens," said Minister Toews.
I commend the CBSA and the Pacific Region Enforcement Centre for their excellent work in apprehending Mr. Nairn. I thank Canadians for their ongoing support of our efforts to find people who are hiding in Canada, some of whom have committed serious crimes.
I would also like to congratulate the CBSA for the removal of Tharmapaskaran Sellathamby. Mr. Sellathamby is the ninth person from the "Wanted by the CBSA" list to be removed.
The Government of Canada remains committed to identifying, detaining and removing those who pose a threat to the safety and security of Canadians."
