Statement by Public Safety Minister on Apprehension and Removal of Individuals from "Wanted by the CBSA" List

ID: 1075058

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/20/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement regarding the apprehension of three individuals from the recently updated "Wanted by the CBSA" list. In the week since Ministers Toews and Kenney updated the list on January 11, Christa Kozonguizi and Delson Jules turned themselves in to authorities and Damion Rami Butler was arrested by the Immigration Task Force.

"With the arrest of these individuals, our government continues to send a strong message that Canada is not a haven for those who try to enter or live here illegally, who have broken the law and threaten the safety of our citizens," said Minister Toews.

I am pleased to see the immediate benefit of the CBSA's outreach and I am especially pleased to note that due to the "Wanted by the CBSA's" success, two of the individuals mentioned today have recognized they can no longer hide and have voluntarily surrendered to authorities.

I commend the Immigration Task Force, which includes members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada Border Services Agency and the Provincial ROPE Squad, for their excellent work in apprehending Mr. Butler. I thank Canadians for their ongoing support of our efforts to find people who are hiding in Canada, some of whom have committed serious crimes.

I would also like to congratulate the CBSA for the removal this week of Jameson Seide. Mr. Seide is the eighth person from the "Wanted by the CBSA" list to be removed.

The Government of Canada remains committed to identifying, detaining and removing those who pose a threat to the safety and security of Canadians."
