Minister Toews Announces Re-appointment of Ian McPhail as Interim Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/18/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, today announced the re-appointment of Mr. Ian McPhail as Vice Chair and Interim Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP.
"I am pleased that Mr. McPhail has agreed to continue in his roles as Vice Chair and Interim Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP," said Minister Toews. "Since first being appointed in January 2010, Mr. McPhail has strongly contributed towards our Government's efforts to make Canada's national police force a stronger, more modern organization."
The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP (CPC) is an independent agency created by Parliament that ensures complaints made by the public about the conduct of RCMP members are examined fairly and impartially.
"Over the years the CPC has played an important role in strengthening the RCMP's accountability to Canadians," said Minister Toews. "Our Government remains committed to introducing new legislation in the coming months, which, when passed, will replace the CPC with a new modern, independent review body. This body will build on the work accomplished by the CPC."
