CSA Scores Reveal inthinc Customers Average in Top Five Percent in Driver Safety

Data, made available to the public by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA), shows that carriers with large fleets using inthinc technology combined for an average score in the top five percent in driver safety, top 25 percent in vehicle maintenance and top 31 percent in fatigued driving.

CSA is an FMCSA initiative to 'improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicles'. Within the Safety Measurement System (SMS), CSA scores are calculated using data from roadside inspections, including all safety-based violations, state-reported crashes, and the Federal Motor Carrier census to quantify performance in the .
Carriers receive points for infractions including speeding, reckless driving, improper lane change and inattention. Point values are determined based on the severity of the violation. Points are calculated monthly and then placed into percentiles from 0 (best) to 100 (worst), by comparing the BASIC measurements to similar carriers.
Within this scoring system, where low scores represent high performance, inthinc customers averaged 3.4 in unsafe driving, 30.2 in fatigue driving and 24.4 in vehicle maintenance; all well ahead of the national average.
