Swimco: $6,000 Raised in Painting Auction Goes to Support Women with Cancer

When Western Canadian swimwear retailer Swimco partnered with Canadian artist Angela Morgan to auction off an original painting in support of Look Good Feel Better®, they weren't sure what to expect. "We'd never hosted an auction before, not to mention online. We wanted to raise awareness for an important cause, and to promote one of Canada's most talented artists", says Swimco President Lori Bacon. With Swimco committing to match the highest bid, the $3,000 from a Calgary, Alberta bidder became $6,000, all going to help fund workshops for women with cancer. "We are so thankful to our staff and customers who helped spread the word about the auction, and of course to those who participated in the bidding", says Bacon.
Although the original painting is now spoken for, Angela Morgan fans can purchase a collectable bag featuring a reprint of the piece at any Swimco location, for $2. All of the funds from the bag sales go directly to Look Good Feel Better. The painting is the fourth in Swimco's series of collectable bags featuring original works of art.
"We are so proud of the amazing work Swimco has done not only in raising much-needed funds to help ensure our free national programs are available for women with cancer, but also in their dedication to spreading the word about our services," says Sherry Abbott, Executive Director of the CCTFA Foundation, which offers the Look Good Feel Better and Facing Cancer Together cancer support programs.
Says artist Angela Morgan, "My work often focuses on the female figure and all its fabulous shapes, forms and contours. As an artist, I strive to capture the beauty of all women, and working with Swimco to support Look Good Feel Better was the perfect fit!"
Look Good Feel Better is Canada's only cancer charity dedicated to empowering women to manage the effects that cancer and its treatment have on their appearance. Free 2-hour cosmetic and hair workshops are offered for women with cancer. Look Good Feel Better is a program of the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation. .
Angela Morgan is a Canadian artist living in Fernie, British Columbia. Her work celebrates humanity through the use of colour, pattern, and line. Her human figures express the poses of life; the jubilation of dance, the contemplation of parenthood, and the melancholy of summer's end. .
