(firmenpresse) - SAN ANTONIO, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 01/16/12 -- 14-year-old Hannah Richmond is one smart cookie and when she sets a goal there is no looking back. In 2011, she earned the title of Top Cookie Entrepreneur Officer for selling 3,258 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. It was the largest amount of boxes ever sold by one girl in the 21 counties that make up the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas.
"In 2012, I am using the business knowledge I gained through selling cookies to encourage San Antonio businesses to get behind the Girl Scout mission," said Richmond. "My goal is sell 10,000 boxes of cookies while making a difference for our troops."
San Antonio's leading digital creative agency, esd and associates, took notice of Richmond when a cold call letter landed on the desk of President Christine Kleha.
"I get so many solicitation letters that I can't possibly respond to all of them," said Kleha. "But, Hannah's stood out. This is a 14-year-old girl who is learning valuable leadership skills from the Girls Scouts of America and then is applying these in our community. We decided to help Hannah. It was an opportunity to really give back and effect change locally. Plus, all the money stays here! I hope other business leaders are inspired to meet Hannah and consider supporting her 10,000-box goal! Richmond intends to donate at least 5,000 boxes to the United Service Organizations (USO) Centers in San Antonio that served 96,000 U.S. Troops and their families in 2011.
"I learned valuable skills of goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics," Richmond added. Cookie proceeds are used to fund Girl Scout activities such as camps, field trips, education programs, travel opportunities, community service and leadership programs.
"In Hannah's case, it has turned her into a teenage entrepreneur," said Stephanie Finleon with Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. "We are impressed with Hannah's business sense and hope it becomes contagious."
Today, esd and associates purchased the first one thousand boxes of cookies to help Richmond reach her 10,000 box goal.
