NDS Snowflake User Interface Wins TV Innovation Award

NDS today announced that its NDS Snowflake? user interface has received the 2012 TV Innovation Award from IMS Research, a worldwide independent supplier of market research and consultancy to the global electronics industry. Now in its third year, the awards have grown to become one of the premier endorsements of innovation in television.
The TV Innovation Awards recognize the most forward thinking companies creating products and services that are changing the way people watch television and were handed out during the 2012 International CES. There are 14 TV Innovation Awards categories, ranging from TV Performance to Advanced User Interface Solutions. Each award category is judged by a completely independent expert panel.
According to IMS Research President, Ian Weightman: ?One of the main reasons that the TV Innovation Awards have become so sought after is that each entry is judged on a completely level playing field. This ensures that companies, ranging from the biggest names in consumer electronics to innovative start-ups, can measure objectively how their products stack-up against those of their competitors.?
NDS Snowflake is a new approach to content navigation, providing a rich and consistent TV experience across multiple devices. Based on an ergonomic model, the principles behind NDS Snowflake are simplicity and intuitiveness, which help unify access to, and the discovery of all types of content, including broadcast, recorded/stored, on-demand, over-the-top programming, and third party on-demand services ? on all types of device, including PCs, TVs, portable media players, tablets, smartphones, and more.
The award-winning NDS Snowflake has been deployed by ZON TV Cabo in Portugal and provides the navigation model behind the user interface for French Telecoms operator SFR. It has also been selected by Liberty Global to provide the portal to their multimedia home gateway.
