Minister Oda Travels to Haiti
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/12/12 -- The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, announced yesterday, in the presence of President Michel Martelly, that Canada will contribute $19.9 million to the Housing Action Project to resettle approximately 20,000 displaced persons currently residing in the Champ de Mars tent camp. This announcement was made on the eve of the second anniversary of the earthquake, demonstrating Canada's long-term commitment to making a difference in the lives of Haitians.
Minister Oda, accompanied by Emmett Fitzgerald, Camps Project Coordinator for the International Organization for Migration, also saw first-hand Place Boyer, where displaced persons lived before they were resettled in surrounding neighbourhoods. Place Boyer has been restored as a community park where children can play.
