Rideau Hall Skating Rink Open to Skaters
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/11/12 -- Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston are pleased to announce that Rideau Hall's skating rink is now officially open to skaters for the winter season.
Their Excellencies extend a warm invitation to members of the public to experience this unique part of Canada's heritage, which has been associated with the official residence since the time of Lord Dufferin, who was governor general from 1872 to 1878.
The general public is invited to skate on Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to 5 p.m., without a reservation. Before heading to Rideau Hall, skaters should check the status of the rink online at or by calling 1-888-842-4422 or 613-991-4422 as it may be closed due to unfavourable weather conditions. Please note that this rink is exclusively for pleasure skating.
Winter at Rideau Hall
Whether you've come to skate, or to walk the snow-covered paths, the historic grounds are a great place to enjoy winter. Visit the State rooms of the residence, as well as the new temporary exhibit 75 years of 'GGreat' Books: the Governor General's Literary Awards, showcasing the more than 600 works that have won the award since 1936. The temporary exhibition gives Canadians up-close access to the entire Literary Award-winning collection that resides at Rideau Hall.
