Westfield Insurance Foundation Donates $15,000 to Pennsylvania Tractor Rollover Structure Retrofit Program
(firmenpresse) - WESTFIELD CENTER, OH -- (Marketwire) -- 01/09/12 -- Westfield Insurance Foundation, an Ohio-based private foundation, donated $15,000 to the ROPS Retrofit Program for Pennsylvania Farmers, a program that provides rebate funds to install rollover protection structures -- ROPS -- on tractors.
Tractor overturns are the leading cause of farming-related deaths. With more than 40 percent of tractors in Pennsylvania lacking proper rollbar and seatbelt protection, the ROPS program provides essential funding to help farmers purchase this necessary safety equipment.
"We know how to stop these fatalities," said Dr. Aaron Yoder, project coordinator. "Rollover structures, along with a seatbelt, have been proven to be 99 percent effective in preventing fatalities in the event of a tractor overturn."
Westfield Insurance Foundation selected the ROPS Retrofit Program, as Westfield Insurance is a property and casualty insurance company, and the top writer of farm business in the United States. Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences administers the program.

Rollover-prevention equipment generally costs between $800 and $1,000. Through the ROPS Retrofit Program, farmers are reimbursed 70 percent of the cost of their ROPS kit, a savings of up to $765.
