Bimba Donates Pneumatic Cylinders to FIRST Robotics Competition
(firmenpresse) - UNIVERSITY PARK, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 01/06/12 -- Bimba proudly announced today its continued sponsorship of this year's , an engineering contest that challenges teams of high school students nationwide to design, build and program a robot to perform specified tasks.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a not-for-profit public charity, created the annual competition in an effort to encourage young people to explore science and technology. Volunteer mentors work with teams of 25 students or more in the weeks leading up to the final three-day championship, where hundreds of teams compete for recognition in categories such as excellence in design, creativity and innovation.
For the past eight years, Bimba has donated thousands of cylinders to teams across the country. "Bimba participates in this program because we think it's important to get kids interested in fields they might not otherwise be exposed to at an early age, like fluid power and engineering," said Pat Ormsby, Bimba's President. "The competition provides a great opportunity to inspire future scientists and engineers." Teams can visit and click on the FIRST spotlight to choose up to three free cylinders available in four different bore sizes.
