New and Extended Outdoor Adventures Encourage Guests to Take It Outdoors and Embrace the Season

With a list of new and extended outdoor adventures for the winter, The Lodge will help cure those winter blues and remedy any sense of cabin fever.
"It is the body's natural reaction to slow down during the winter months, but along with that can come some unwanted side effects such as weight gain, increased tiredness and even depression," states Bill Deaton, outdoor adventure manager at The Lodge at Woodloch. "Getting exercise, soaking in the sun, breathing fresh air and getting social all help to combat those pesky side effects."
This winter, The Lodge at Woodloch's team wanted to truly embrace the season and focus on new opportunities and new reasons to get outside. Feeling the tingle of winter, breathing in the brisk air and smelling the sharp scent of the outdoors helps the body to feel alive again. The outdoor adventure team developed several programs for the winter months and will feature an extensive Winter Wonder Workshop to help celebrate and embrace the season. The extensive Winter Wonder Workshop is a 3-day celebration of the outdoors and will include extended hiking, snow-shoeing and new cross-country skiing adventures in key parks surrounding The Lodge at Woodloch, nestled in the of Pennsylvania. The adventures will leave the property in the morning, a hot gourmet meal will be provided on the trail and guests will return to The Lodge at approximately three-o'clock in the afternoon to take advantage of warming spa treatments, the hydro-massage waterwalls or the outdoor whirlpool overlooking the private lake.
Chef Peter Schott has developed a winter cooking demonstration to showcase comfort foods that are healthful and provide energy and awareness during the long winter days. An evening workshop with Bill Deaton will focus on winter clothing and equipment, trip planning, and winter safety. In addition, the spa will feature the "Hot Toddy for your Body" special treatment during this time.
Check-in. Evening Hot Toddy Bar, cocktail hour. Offering a twist to the original Hot Toddy, The Lodge at Woodloch puts a spa twist on the traditional. With options such as Chamomile Hot Toddy, Ginger Hot Toddy and Apple Cinnamon Hot Toddys utilizing local honey and herbs harvested locally or on property.
Hiking in the Delaware State Forest, explore frozen marshes and hemlock groves along a ten mile trail through a unique ecosystem. This all-day excursion sets out at 9:00am and returns around 3:30pm and includes a hot trailside lunch. That evening, there will be a Moonlight Snowshoe Sojourn beginning at 8:00pm.
Cross Country Skiing using the new fleet of cross-country skis for the 2012 year. The cross-country adventure will visit the frosty forest of the Bruce Lake Natural Area, departing at 9:00 am and returning at 3:30 pm (approximately ten miles). Chef Peter Schott has prepared a lunch which will be served hot on the trail.
Snowshoeing at the Varden Conservation Area. Spend a full day discovering one of Pennsylvania's newest parks... on snowshoes! Following a scenic drive to the park, spend the morning rambling around the old farm areas and snowy fields. After a hot lunch, trek through the wintery woods that surround the former homestead (approximately eight miles). Return to the Lodge by 3:30 pm.

There is no additional cost for the extensive Winter Wonder Workshop and guests can choose to participate in all or select adventures. All of the areas are well-suited for beginners as well as enthusiasts. The activities will continue throughout the season at their regularly scheduled times although locations on the regular schedule will differ and will not offer extended hours with lunch served on the trail.
