Gingrich Urges Moms to "Participate in an Election Worthy of our Children"

(firmenpresse) - DES MOINES, IA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/30/11 -- Today Newt Gingrich, surrounded by his wife, daughters and grandchildren, was moved to tears as he recalled memories of his mother in front of 100 moms at a "Coffee Break" hosted by CafeMom, the most visited site for moms in America with more than nine million monthly unique visitors. Collecting himself, Gingrich admitted, "I do policy much easier than I do personal."

With just days to go before the Iowa caucuses, the townhall style event, held at local establishment Java Joe's and co-hosted by GOP pollster Frank Luntz and CafeMom Election Correspondent Lindsay Ferrier, was organized to give women the chance to personally get to know Gingrich and his views on the issues that matter most to mothers. As part of CafeMom's "" initiative -- a nonpartisan platform to inform and empower moms -- today's event was the first in a series of hosted Coffee Breaks with the presidential candidates.

Gingrich told the crowd that he believes mothers understand the threat of a devalued, uprooted America more deeply than men.

"I would simply ask folks to think about how much you love your children and how much you love your country," said Gingrich. "And try to help people like me figure out how do we get the news media and the candidates to understand that they really should participate in an election worthy of our children and worthy of our country because we are in real trouble and we can't stand politics as usual."

Despite being a crucial voting bloc for the 2012 elections, moms are feeling anti-partisan, disenfranchised, and financially insecure, according to CafeMom's recent Moms Matter survey. The survey also revealed that moms are also looking for empathy from candidates. The message they most want to convey to candidates is "show me you understand families like mine."

"Moms care just as much about who the candidates are than their party or where they stand on particular issues," said Ferrier, who is also a stepmom and mom to four kids. "We're thrilled to do events like this one to give moms a chance to get to know the candidates so they can make informed decisions in the election."

Moms Matter 2012 is a nonpartisan platform organized by CafeMom, America's most visited website for moms. The site's mission is to unite moms, regardless of political affiliation, in order to bring the issues they care about most to the forefront of the country's awareness, help shape the outcome of the 2012 election, and ultimately improve the lives of moms and their families in this country.

Launched in 2006, CafeMom is the online meeting place for moms, reaching more than 9MM unique visitors per month on CafeMom.com and 20MM+ unique visitors per month on CafeMom Plus (comScore, Sept. 2011), a boutique network of sites that reach moms and parents. CafeMom is also the leader in developing custom programs for leading brands that want to connect with and understand moms online. CafeMom is a strategic partner to leading mom companies like General Mills, Kmart, P&G, Target, Dell, and others. CafeMom plans to launch Mamás Latinas, a new bilingual site to serve Hispanic moms, in 2012. CafeMom lead investors are Highland Capital Partners and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. The company was founded by Andrew Shue and Michael Sanchez.

In October 2011, CafeMom conducted a national online survey of 1,750 moms with a child under 18 years old in the household. Global Marketing Research Services programmed and fielded the study, and validated the weighting of the responses by age, race, region of residence, and income. The survey has a margin of error +/- 2.3%.
