NADP/DDPA Report Shows Significant Market Rebound
Number of Americans With Dental Coverage Increases 4.5%
(firmenpresse) - DALLAS, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 12/22/11 -- More than 175 million Americans, 57% of the population, were covered by some form of dental benefits in 2010, according to the 2011 NADP/DDPA Joint Dental Benefits Enrollment Report released this week.
The report indicates a 4.5% increase in total national enrollment in comparison to the decline in 2009. Additional highlights include:
DPPO products remain the most prevalent product in the market, increasing market share to 74% of all commercial benefits.
Individual products increased to 3.6% of the population with dental benefits.
Only 1% of dental benefits are integrated with medical policies while 98% are provided under a separate dental policy.
Premiums and fees are paid at least in part by most enrollees. The percentage of enrollees paying at least a part of the premium/fee vary by product as follows:
Discount plans - 99%
DDPO and DHMO - 81%
Indemnity - 45%
"The increase in dental plan enrollment reinforces the findings of other studies that dental coverage is valuable to employees and employers of all sizes," said NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE. "NADP continues to advocate for health care reform regulations that will maintain the same types of coverage and choices available to small business employers in the current marketplace."

The 2011 NADP/DDPA Joint Dental Benefits Enrollment Report includes both national and state data and is available in the Research Vault on the NADP Website. Dental plan members receive the report as part of their membership and it is offered at a reduced rate to all other membership categories.
