Governor General to Attend State Funeral for Vaclav Havel
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/21/11 -- At the request of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will attend the State funeral for Vaclav Havel, former president of the Czech Republic, on Friday, December 23, 2011, in Prague. The service will begin at noon at St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle.
"Vaclav Havel was a force for liberty, human dignity and democracy. As a peaceful leader against tyranny, he fought for freedom and inspired his fellow citizens and millions across the continent. His spirit and dedication led a generation to hope and prosperity. As an honorary Companion of the Order of Canada, he embodied the values and beliefs Canadians hold so dear. On behalf of all Canadians, it is an honour to pay tribute to one of the greatest statesman of the 20th century."
