Whitecap Dakota First Nation Celebrates Opening of New Health Centre
(firmenpresse) - WHITECAP DAKOTA FIRST NATION, SASKATCHEWAN -- (Marketwire) -- 12/16/11 -- The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Member of Parliament for Blackstrap and Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, today attended the grand opening of the Whitecap Dakota First Nations Health Centre in Saskatchewan.
"Our government is working with First Nations communities to improve access to better health care," said Minister Aglukkaq. "We are proud to have supported this partnership project between the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and the Government of Canada."
"This new Whitecap Dakota Health Centre will pull a range of community health programs and services into one location," said Minister Yelich. "The facility will become the new community hub for programs that focus on youth and families and serve the growing needs of this community for many years to come."
Whitecap Dakota First Nation Chief Darcy Bear stated, "Today's exciting announcement about the new health center at Whitecap is another very significant achievement in a series of infrastructure developments at our First Nation. As Whitecap continues to attract population because of our increasing employment opportunities, it is incumbent on us to ensure that our offering of services matches, or exceeds, that pace of growth. Thanks to this partnership with Health Canada, Whitecap can provide vital services for our residents as well as for those in our region. This important initiative is indicative of our continuous commitment to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Whitecap."
This modern 5,340 square foot health facility will offer Health Canada programs such as the Canada Pre-Natal Nutrition Program, and the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Program. It will also offer community health nursing services, such as immunization clinics and home care, as well as programs that focus on controlling communicable diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
