Finding a New Job in the New Year
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 12/12/11 -- As New Year rolls around the corner there is really no better time to start your and get your foot on the ladder of your new career. Whether you want to look for a fresh opportunity within your current sector or are hoping for a complete change of career direction, there are various things you can do in the New Year to make this a reality.
Here is our guide to bagging your perfect job:
Fully research the sector you wish to work in
Before you can really start your job search it's vitally important to understand the industry you're looking to work in. Whether your search consists of looking at , administration jobs, finance jobs or teaching jobs, you'll have to adequately research the potential positions available to you and analyse your skills set to understand if you'd be successful on application.
Revamp your CV
The key to finding a new job in the New Year is starting afresh. Sending out the same tired CV over and over again is going to get you nowhere. Having fully researched your chosen sector and found potential jobs that match with your skills set it's important that when applying, your CV doesn't let you down.
One of the most common mistakes made by jobseekers is to write a CV for a specific sector, but not tailoring it to each individual job. Those applicants who look specifically at the job description and match their CV to the employer's requirements are much more likely to impress their potential employer and get their foot in the door with a winning CV.
Think about what an employer could find about you
Employers are continually becoming savvier with social media and will take to it to try and gain a better understanding of potential employees. A mistake that job candidates make often is ignoring this and not thinking proactively about their social media footprint. Those who work on getting their online presence cleaned up and consistent will stand in good stead to securing employment.
Think about how you come across at the interview stage
Various sectors may operate a casual dress policy during working hours, but this should never be repeated at interview stage. According to recent research, over one third (34%) of executives in a recent poll stated they felt casual dress has gone too far, eroding respect and effectiveness(1). Even if the company adopts this kind of dress code, corporate wear at interview is often the best way of showing your commitment to the position. A change of direction in the New Year could fall down to the slimmest of margins.
