Think about what an employer could find about you
Employers are continually becoming savvier with social media and will take to it to try and gain a better understanding of potential employees. A mistake that job candidates make often is ignoring this and not thinking proactively about their social media footprint. Those who work on getting their online presence cleaned up and consistent will stand in good stead to securing employment.
Think about how you come across at the interview stage
Various sectors may operate a casual dress policy during working hours, but this should never be repeated at interview stage. According to recent research, over one third (34%) of executives in a recent poll stated they felt casual dress has gone too far, eroding respect and effectiveness(1). Even if the company adopts this kind of dress code, corporate wear at interview is often the best way of showing your commitment to the position. A change of direction in the New Year could fall down to the slimmest of margins.
