Minister Oda Launches Call for Proposals for International Youth Internship Program

ID: 1064658

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/09/11 -- Today, the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, announced a call for proposals for the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP). Minister Oda invited organizations from across Canada to submit proposals for youth internships that will provide young Canadians with the opportunity to participate in international aid projects in developing countries.

"Canadian youth have a deep interest in global issues and are increasingly aware of the challenges being faced by their peers in other countries. The International Youth Internship Program is a unique chance to work with those who are committed to helping some of the world's most vulnerable people," said Minister Oda. "Former interns reported that their experiences were life changing and many have gone on to an international career."

As part of the Global Citizens Program, CIDA's International Youth Internship Program works with Canadian partner organizations-such as universities, colleges, and civil society organizations-to offer international experience, skills, and knowledge that will enhance their future careers.

For detailed information on how to participate in the IYIP call for proposals, organizations are invited to review the CIDA web page .

Since 2009, the IYIP has allowed more than 1,000 young Canadians to gain experience in developing countries. As a result, the interns enhanced their awareness and deepened their understanding of international development issues. Upon returning to Canada, and as part of their internship agreement, they actively participated in outreach activities to share their experiences.

IYIP, which is part of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy, targets Canadian graduates between the ages 19 to 30, providing the tools and experience that Canadian youth need to launch successful careers and become responsible global citizens.

Once selected, the organizations will individually carry out the intern application process.
