US Foods Helps Reno Families Have a Happy, Healthy Holiday
(firmenpresse) - ROSEMONT, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 12/09/11 -- Today, US Foods donated five barrels of food, including more than 100 turkeys, and a $2,000 check to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. The 132 employees of the Reno Division have been collecting food for the past month. The money will help ensure that critical funds are available to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to continue fulfilling its mission to end hunger through direct services, advocacy, outreach and education.
"Our employees truly enjoy participating in this food drive and helping to improve the lives of Reno residents and families," said Bill Engle, Reno Division President. "With high unemployment and a difficult economic environment, it's more important than ever to help people in need by providing good, nutritious food."
The Northern Nevada Food Bank serves the poor and hungry in the Northern Nevada and California Sierra area. Last year, the food bank distributed over 8.1 million pounds of food to more than 153,000 low-income seniors, children and families.
"We are grateful for the support from US Foods," said Doris Phelps, chief marketing and philanthropy officer, Food Bank of Northern Nevada. "The food donations help us achieve our mission and ensure Northern Nevada families don't go hungry."
