Christmas Number One Betting: 'Do the Military Ladies Have the X Factor?' Asks Sky Bet
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 12/08/11 -- The Military Ladies Choir are 8/13 favourites with leading firm Sky Bet to take the Christmas Number One crown for 2011, despite The X Factor's previous dominance of the position and Nirvana announcing the re-release of their classic 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' for charity.
The Ladies, put together through a BBC2 series by the face of modern day choir singing, Gareth Malone, have been backed into favourites for their single 'Wherever You Are' after receiving the approval of Radio DJs such as Chris Evans. Things can only get better for the choir as they will also appear on the Strictly Come Dancing semi-finals!
The online bookmaker installs the winner of The X Factor at 5/4 to take the number one spot, even after fans took to Twitter to this week to claim the reality show is a fix. Nirvana's re-release of 'Teen Spirit' at 11/2 is 2011's anti-X Factor song. However, they aren't the only ones in the mix.
The team of teenage favourite Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey performing her Christmas classic 'All I Want For Christmas Is You ...' is 16/1, whilst aspiring popstar Arianna Morgan's cover of the Fleetwood Mac 'Songbird' is 22/1 to take the Christmas crown.
Sky Bet spokesman Joseph Seager said "There are plenty of acts out there trying to get that Christmas top spot. From established names like Britney Spears (80/1) to the cast of The Only Way is Essex (25/1) and we've seen some heavy backing of the Nirvana re-release for children's charity Rhythmix. However, as much as I'd love to see The Wombles (16/1) stick it to The X Factor, it's difficult to see past the nation rallying around and The Military Ladies Choir bringing it home for their servicemen!"
