Public Safety Minister Toews Announces Appointments to the Parole Board of Canada
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/07/11 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, today announced one full-time appointment and one part-time appointment to the Parole Board of Canada.
"Our Government is committed to ensuring appointments to the Parole Board of Canada are based on merit and ability," said Minister Toews. "As an independent decision-making tribunal that plays a significant role in contributing to the safety of our communities, it is imperative that we appoint highly qualified and committed people. I'm pleased to make today's announcement."
Quebec
Louis H. Renault, LL.L., of Morin-Heights, Quebec, is appointed as a part-time member. Mr. Renault is an attorney and member of the Barreau du Quebec and now semi-retired. He practised civil and commercial litigation law (matrimonial, insurance, civil liability, commercial and medical), as well as corporate law. He was first appointed as a part-time member of the Board in 1992 for a three-year term. He has a bachelor's degree in law from McGill University.
Prairies
Patricia Haasbeek, of Edmonton, Alberta, is re-appointed as a full-time member. Ms. Haasbeek was first appointed as a full-time member in 2007. She has 18 years experience working in the Manitoba correctional and justice system. She has been a Probation Officer responsible for managing high-risk offenders and sex-trade workers. In 1999-2000, she headed the transition team for the development and implementation of the domestic violence unit at Headingley Correctional Centre. Ms. Haasbeek has a certificate in criminology from Red River Community College and is currently taking courses at the Canadian Institute of Management and Administration at the University of Manitoba.
