U.K. Opens First CCS Plant, an Industrial Info News Alert
(firmenpresse) - GALWAY, IRELAND -- (Marketwire) -- 12/06/11 -- Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) -- Efforts to speed up the development of large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology in the U.K. have been boosted by the government formally opening the first CCS plant in Yorkshire, England.
Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne was on hand to inaugurate the CCPilot 100+ pilot project at the Ferrybridge coal-fired power station in West Yorkshire. The project, which is the first of its size to be integrated into an operational power plant, is a collaboration between plant owner (PINK:SSEZY) (SSE) (Perth, Scotland) and partners Doosan Babcock Energy Limited (Renfrew, Scotland) and Swedish energy giant Vattenfall AB (Stockholm). First announced in November 2009, the 5-megawatt (MW) Ferrybridge pilot was touted as the U.K.'s largest planned CCS project.
