Veterans Affairs Minister Steven Blaney Announces Members of New Scientific Advisory Committee on Veterans' Health

ID: 1063159

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/05/11 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today announced the members of a new scientific advisory committee that will provide expert advice to the Minister on specific Veterans' health issues.

The five committee members are Dr. Claire Infante-Rivard, Dr. Kurt Kroenke, Dr. Pierre Morisset, Dr. Cameron Mustard and Dr. Dorothy Pringle, all of whom are recognized leaders in health research. Dr. Kroenke and Dr. Morisset are also Veterans.

"The work of these internationally recognized experts will add another layer of assurance that our Government is using the most up-to-date research and analysis in considering health issues," said Minister Blaney. "It is imperative that our approach to Veterans' concerns be based on science to ensure our Veterans are receiving the best and most appropriate supports and treatment."

The new committee follows on plans first announced by Minister Blaney last month to assemble an independent and multidisciplinary committee to study Veterans' health issues. The new committee will convene early in the new year and use its first meeting to establish a timetable for its work. Its first study will be on depleted uranium.

Biographies of the committee members are available. For more information, please visit veterans.gc.ca.
