(firmenpresse) - ST. STEPHEN, NEW BRUNSWICK -- (Marketwire) -- 12/03/11 -- Today, on behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, John Williamson, Member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest, participated in a wreath-laying ceremony organized by Wreaths Across America to honour the sacrifices and contributions of Allied Veterans.

"Our Government is proud to honour the legacy of those who served and those who continue to serve our country," said Minister Blaney. "Our Veterans are ordinary people who have accomplished extraordinary things in order to protect our values of liberty, democracy and the rule of law. It is our duty to ensure that their contributions are never forgotten."

The Wreaths Across America HART (Honouring Allies and Remembering Together) ceremony is an annual event organized to recognize the service of all Veterans including Canadian men and women who have served or are serving in the United States military.

"Today, the service and sacrifices made by all Veterans are recognized and remembered," said Mr. Williamson. "Their collective accomplishments have provided our countries with a proud and lasting legacy. As Canadians and as North Americans, we are extremely proud to be part of this event and to pay tribute to our Veterans, regardless of which uniform they wear."

The annual wreath-laying ceremony is sponsored by Wreaths Across America, a non-profit organization based in the United States, which provides a wreath for a Silver Cross Mother to place in memory of all Canadian allies at the Cenotaph Memorial Monument in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. This event kicks off a full week of Wreaths Across America events including the transportation of 220,000 wreaths from Maine to Virginia where they will be placed on Veterans' graves in Arlington National Cemetery.
