Farmington Is a Leader in Best Practices, Programs, Service and Innovation

(firmenpresse) - FARMINGTON, MN -- (Marketwire) -- 11/29/11 -- Chartwells School Dining Services is proud to announce the addition of the Farmington School District in Minnesota to their roster of Centers For Excellence (CFE). The certification of Farmington demonstrates it as a pinnacle for excellence. CFE units are capable of sharing best practices, developing new programs and creating innovation while providing superior service and great food. Chartwells has served the Farmington School District for over 8 years.

A CFE distinction is accomplished through a lengthy process of audits and inspections. In order for a location to become certified as a CFE, the account must meet over 300 criterions in specific operational guidelines, standards, and management training requirements. Farmington's location in near the Minneapolis area is an ideal venue for hosting corporate trainings for all Compass sectors.

Farmington School District received this distinction because of:

Ability to feed over 4700 students daily in 8 buildings.

Farmington's program successfully balances Chartwells' nutrition, marketing, and culinary parameters while continuing to increase meal participation and customer satisfaction.

Peggy Anderberg, Director, and Bernie Getzlaff, Assistant Director, lead a team of 60 dedicated food service professionals that prepare nutrition meals, most of which have successfully completed and passed the ServSafe Food Exam.

Through a partnership between the Schools for Energy Efficiency (SEE) Program, Dakota County, Dick's Sanitation and Chartwells, Farmington Area Public Schools has shifted district waste management from a taxable waste stream to a non-taxable recycling stream saves the district 17% in costs on all volume.

Schools have reduced their pick up frequency to one pick up per week, saving the district a total of $1580 a month.

After implementing the Trim Trax food waste study, led by Chef Tim Printup, the kitchen employees have reduced out-of-date/unused inventory waste by half, trimmed over production waste by 30% and slashed production waste to just a quarter of what it was previously.

In 2009, Farmington Area Public Schools opened a new, state-of-the-art high school and Chartwells implemented the Environments program.

In 2010, Environments was launched at both of the middle schools.

Farmington Area Schools partners with Chartwells to provide catering opportunities for the school district functions as well as community events such as the Missota Arts Festival in 2009; High School Top 10% Dinner in 2010 and 2011; Farmington Teacher's Association Lunch in 2010 and 2011; Community Patriotic Dinner in 2010 and 2011; German Dinner/Concert in 2009

Farmington has achieved the Be-A-Star commitments since 2003, such as Central Region Account of the Year in 2006; Central Region Account of the Year - Second Place in 2008; Central Region 5 Star Winner in 2008; Increased Participation Award in 2011.

The district wellness committee and Chartwells work closely to achieve a high level of health and wellness for students and adults. For example, they sponsor a back to school Wellness Walk offering a fresh fruit and veggie and yogurt bar following the walk. Also through grant opportunities from Dakota County, Chartwells has offered taste tests of fresh fruits and vegetables (baked plantains, parsnips, mango) to the students.

After being named as a Center For Excellence, Farmington will then serve as a regional training, testing and development center. Chartwells' specific training programs will be hosted at this location, including sessions on program standards, finance, nutrition and culinary subjects.

The official CFE certification ceremony and celebration took place at Farmington High School on November 16th. The event was attended by Farmington school officials, community guests and Chartwells associates.

"The advantages of a CFE to a school district such as Farmington indicate that this account demonstrates operational excellence with great programs and great people," said Toni Alexander, Field Support & Development Director for Chartwells.

Chartwells, a division of Charlotte, NC-based Compass Group, provides dining services for over 550 public school districts and private schools, comprising over 6,000 separate elementary, middle and high schools nationwide. For more information about Chartwells School Dining Services, visit .
