The UT Senior Design Team Helps Company Advance Sophistication of Turbine System's Data Acquisition and Suggests Building Turbines Horizontal Axis Turbine May Have Cost Advantages Over Other Designs

(firmenpresse) - AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 11/29/11 -- In early September, Building Turbines, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: BLDW), a designer and manufacturer of commercial rooftop wind turbine systems and other renewable energy technologies, welcomed a team of seniors from The University of Texas at Austin Mechanical Engineering program to go to school on the company's two rooftop mounted wine turbines.

For over a year the renewable energy equipment has been quietly spinning in the warm Texas breezes, generating electricity from their perch atop of a five-story office tower located at 7703 North Lamar in Austin, where Building Turbines headquarters. This week, after more than two months of evaluation, measurement, study and assessment, three engineering students provided their findings and recommendations in a final report delivered to Building Turbines management.

"Tremendous work!" said John Graham, president and CEO of Building Turbines, Inc. "The effort put forth by this team of students exceeded our expectations. From the students' work, we are in a better position now to collect valuable data that measures the amount of electricity generated at various wind speeds and direction, which are critical factors when projecting energy savings as well as return on investment realized by our turbines. We are sincerely grateful for the students' dedication to this project and the professional approach adopted by the team from the start of the project," said Graham.

Christopher Standford, who on behalf of Building Turbines mentored the students through the engineering project, said, "We challenged the students with evaluating and solving some pretty high-level issues, and they rose to the task. Each of these students has a bright future. They and their school should feel proud to have completed a project that contributed to the body of knowledge and understanding of this complex green energy technology and bring it one step closer to large scale production."
