Britain's Van Drivers Prefer Vans to Cars, According to a Survey by Swinton Commercial
(firmenpresse) - MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 11/27/11 -- A recent survey by Swinton Commercial, the UK's leading high street retailer of , has revealed that the vehicle of choice for Britain's van drivers is in fact their van and not their private car.
Over half (53%) of those surveyed said they preferred to drive their van in their spare time as opposed to their car as it makes them feel more authoritative on the road.
The survey also revealed that almost 60 per cent of van drivers felt safer when driving their van than their car due to higher vantage points offered by vans providing a better view of the road.
A third (33%) of drivers admitted to using their van to run day-to-day errands such as picking the kids up from school, nipping to the local supermarket or takeaway, or helping friends and relatives move large items that can't fit in a car.
Just under 20 per cent (18.70%) of drivers said they'd used their work van to take someone on a first date.
When asked on average how many hours per week drivers spend in their vans, a shocking 54 per cent said up to 65 hours.
The results highlighted top five reasons drivers prefer their van to their car:

People naturally think that if given the choice of driving a van or a car, the majority would prefer a car, but clearly this is not the case for van drivers. It seems that once a van driver, always a van driver.
"For those using their commercial vans for personal use, it's important to check their policy to ensure that they are covered to carry passengers and use the vehicle after working hours. Failure to do this could result in their insurance being invalid and van drivers having to pay out large sums of money to cover costs."
